What is OSSTET?

OSSTET (Odisha Secondary School Teacher Eligibility Test) is conducted by the Board of Secondary Education (BSE), Odisha. It is mandatory for aspiring candidates who wish to become teachers for Classes IX to XII in government or private secondary schools in the state.


OSSTET 2025 Notification

The official notification for OSSTET 2025 is expected to be released by BSE Odisha on their official website: bseodisha.ac.in. The notification includes important dates, application process, exam pattern, and eligibility guidelines.

Expected Timeline:

  • Notification Release: Sep/Oct 2025
  • Online Application Start: Oct/Nov2025
  • Admit Card Release: December/January 2025-26
  • Exam Date: Dec/Jan 2025-26

Eligibility Criteria

OSSTET has two categories:

  • Category I: Education Teachers (TGT Arts, TGT Science, Hindi, Classical Teacher)
  • Category II: Physical Education Teacher (PET)

General Eligibility

  • Candidate must be an Indian citizen.
  • Must be able to read and write in Odia.
  • Passed Odia as a subject up to HSC level or equivalent.

Educational Qualification

For TGT Arts

  • Bachelor’s degree in Arts/Commerce with 50% marks and B.Ed.(Minimum two school subjects)

For TGT Science

  • Bachelor’s degree in Science (PCM/CBZ) with 50% marks and B.Ed.(Minimum two school subjects) 

For Hindi/Urdu Teachers

  • Specific degrees like Shiksha Shastri, B.Ed (Hindi), or equivalent.

For PET

  • +2 or its equivalent with C.P.Ed./B.P.Ed./M.P.Ed.

Note: Relaxation is applicable for reserved categories as per Odisha Govt. norms.


Syllabus Structure

OSSTET is divided into two papers, depending on the subject you’re applying for.

Paper Structure (for all streams)

  • Part I (Common for all)

    • Odia Language (20 Questions each question carrying 1 Mark)
    • English Language (20 Questions each question carrying 1 Marks)
  • Part II (Subject-specific): (60 Questions each question carrying 1 Mark)

    • TGT Arts: History, Political Science, Geography, Economics, English
    • TGT Science: PCM or CBZ subjects
    • Classical Language/Hindi: Grammar & Literature
    • PET: Physical Education topics
  • Part III

  • Child Development, Pedagogy, Educational Management & Evaluation (50 Questions question carrying 1 Mrk) each

1. What is OTET?

The OTET is conducted in two papers:

  • Paper I: For candidates who want to teach Classes I to V (Primary Level).
  • Paper II: For candidates who want to teach Classes VI to VIII (Upper Primary Level).

Candidates can appear for either one or both papers depending on their eligibility.


2. OTET 2025 Notification Overview

  • Conducting Body: Board of Secondary Education, Odisha (BSEO)
  • Mode of Exam: Offline (OMR-based)
  • Application Mode: Online via BSEO official website
  • Expected Notification Release: June–July 2025 (tentative)

3. OTET Eligibility Criteria

For Paper I (Class I to V):

  • Higher Secondary (or equivalent) with at least 50% marks and 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed)
    OR
  • Higher Secondary with 50% marks and 2-year D.El.Ed (as per NCTE norms)
    OR
  • Higher Secondary with at least 50% marks and 4- year B.El.Ed.
    OR
  • Graduation with 50% Marks and 2-year D.El.Ed.

For Paper II (Class VI to VIII):

  • Graduation with at least 50% marks and 1-year B.Ed
    OR
  • Graduation with at least 50% marks and 2-year B.Ed (as per NCTE norms)
    OR
  • Higher Secondary with 50% marks and 4-year B.El.Ed
    OR
  • Higher Secondary with 50% marks and 4-year B.A/B.Sc.Ed or B.A.Ed/B.Sc.Ed
    OR
  • Graduation with 50% marks and 1-year/2-year B.Ed (Special Education)

Note: Candidates belonging to reserved categories may get a 5% relaxation in marks.
